🟢Lead with a curious mindset. Remind leaders that no one comes to work wanting to do a bad job.⁠

🚪Employers who follow Door A pay fairly and sensibly, they recognise the days of a fair days pay in exchange for labour are long gone. Employees feel suitably rewarded and are financially better off than their peers who are constantly job hopping, chasing a similar deal and an employer with positive values⁠

What’s behind Door B 👻 😳 *scary*⁠
💸 Pay’s aren’t set & monitored to the market, employees can be underpaid or significantly overpaid⁠
💸 There’s no pay parity pays can differ widely between employees of similar levels and skillsets⁠
💸 The offer is the base pay and thats it, “why should they get more for doing the job I’m paying them to do in the first place”⁠
💸 There’s no consideration for individual performance when setting pays, the top performer and the worst performer are rewarded in the same way⁠
⁠
🚪Employers who follow Door B have a constant churn of employees and can’t figure out why, particularly in positions where there are vast gaps in pays. They find high performers gradually decline in their standard of work (that’s if they even stick around that long), care factor in work quality and ethic is zero. For the employees it’s just a job that pays the bills until something better comes along - OR - a job that they can get paid for not doing a whole lot

Like millions of families Australia wide ours has been touched by suicide, in fact with 8.6 people taking their own lives per day it would be more likely than not to have lost a family member or friend to suicide. It's estimated 65,000 Australians attempt suicide every year.

Suicide is the national conversation we need to have, it’s the leading cause of death for those aged 15-44 years and the second leading cause of death in the 45-54 age group.

The impact of suicide on family and friends is devastating, all grief is devastating but suicide brings about it's own peculiarities; the replayed conversations, the "if only" thoughts, the guilt that you didn't do more, the anger that they left you. It leaves a scar seared onto your soul that doesn't go away and you have just joined the club nobody wants to be a member of.

R U Ok Day is 8th September, for the month of August The People & Culture Office will be donating a % of total revenue to the Goldfields Women's Health Care Centre to support their mental health services.

The Goldfields Women's Health Care Centre supports Goldfields women and their families to manage their health and wellbeing. As a locally lead NFP, Simone & Tiahanna support the Centre wherever possible to achieve greater health outcomes for our community.

And remember, if you are concerned about someone’s mental health & wellbeing, talking to them about it just involves a simple sentence: "I’ve noticed you have been more or less (followed by the behaviour)" For example, I've noticed you've been arriving late to work, I'm just wondering if everything ok?. You are just stating you've noticed a behavioural change, no assumptions, no diagnosing, its just the start of a conversation

Meet our client Phil Yates of Versatile Plant Hire Meet our client Phil Yates of Versatile Plant Hire and Contracting VPHC. As a small business operating within the mining industry Phil is competing against the big miners when it comes to attracting and retaining operators, in addition, there has been a shortage of skilled operators for the 3 years we have been partnering with Phil. 

A strategy to overcome this has been to build his own skilled workforce through internal training and structured traineeships.

The biggest benefit to this approach is that recruitment is not viewed through the lens of skill and past experience, instead we look at personal values, diversity of knowledge and individual strengths to view how someone could add value to Phil’s team.

This has resulted in a team that has quadrupled in size and a stable, engaged and productive crew of fantastic employees.
