A print magazine about work, culture, and the decisions that shape how people actually experience their jobs.

The Real Work exists because the conversation about work has become loud, fast, and increasingly shallow.

This magazine was created to slow things down.

To step away from hot takes, performative culture talk, and content designed to be consumed and forgotten.
And instead create space for reflection, challenge, and more honest conversations about leadership, culture, and responsibility at work.

The kind of thinking that doesn’t disappear in 24 hours.

Why The Real Work was created

The Real Work grew out of years of working alongside leaders, teams, and organisations navigating the same tension:

Work has changed.
Expectations have shifted.
But many workplaces are still operating with outdated assumptions.

Across bi-annual editions, the magazine explores what happens in the space between:

  • basic compliance and best-practice HR

  • leadership intent and leadership impact

  • what organisations say they value and how people actually experience work

It’s not about offering quick fixes or neat answers.
It’s about asking better questions – and sitting with them long enough for something meaningful to emerge.

What you’ll find inside

Each edition of The Real Work brings together essays, commentary, and perspectives on topics including:

  • leadership accountability and promotion decisions

  • workplace culture beyond slogans and perks

  • psychological safety and psychosocial risk

  • recruitment as a culture decision

  • generational expectations at work

  • wellbeing, belonging, and trust

  • the lived experience of work in regional and real environments

The writing is informed by research, grounded in practice, and shaped by what’s actually happening inside workplaces – not what’s trending online.

Print, by design

The Real Work is intentionally print-first.

Print invites a different relationship with ideas.
It asks you to slow down, read deeply, mark pages, revisit thoughts, and pass the magazine on.

Each edition is released twice a year – June and December – and produced in limited quantities.

Because some conversations deserve more than a scroll.

The Real Work lives in the space between.
Between what’s required – and what’s right.
Between intention – and impact.

If this page makes you pause, reflect, or feel slightly uncomfortable, that’s not accidental.
